Brazil: Selic rate upped for the seventh straight time

Despite falling inflation, Brazil's Central Bank (BCB) raised the Selic interest rate on Wednesday by 0.25 percentage points to 15%, its zenith since 2006, citing ongoing economic uncertainty. The unanimous Monetary Policy Committee's (Copom) move surprised local markets, who anticipated it would stay at 14.75%.

What about a new species of penguins, the Rockaronis, a cross between Rockhopper and Macaroni

The docuseries “Secrets of the Penguins” from National Geographic captured footage of several rare penguin chicks for the very first time. Their parents are a mixed-species couple: a rockhopper mother and a macaroni penguin father. The resulting chicks, called “rockaronis” successfully hatched and appeared to be healthy and thriving so writes Jenifeer Geer for IFL Science.

Flybondi has new major stockholders

A US-based international investment fund has bought a stake in Argentine budget carrier Flybondi, becoming now the company's main stockholder. COC Global Enterprise seeks to strengthen Flybondi's positioning amid plummeting public perception following numerous delays and cancellations. The new co-owners also hope to add new aircraft and expand the company's route network.

China Eastern announces service to Ezeiza through Auckland

China Eastern Airlines will launch in December a new air route linking Shanghai and Buenos Aires, with a stopover in Auckland, New Zealand. It will be the first direct route between China and Argentina, operating twice a week with Boeing 777s. This “southern pass” is a faster, more convenient alternative to traditional routes through Europe or North America, it was explained.
